Red Balloon-Reading fundraising reaches £10,000
Trustees of Red Balloon-Reading and their colleagues at marketing solutions business Yell, with whom Red Balloon is partnering to set up a new centre for the Thames Valley region, have been hard at work fundraising in recent months.
Around £10,000 has been raised towards the trustees’ target of £75,000 for start-up costs for the centre, which is earmarked for opening in an impressive former office building near the town’s main railway station.
A range of fundraising activities have been undertaken by Yell employees and Red-Balloon Reading trustees, including card, jewellery and bookmark making, sponsored runs and the setting up of a system for Yell employees to donate money to Red Balloon direct from their Reading head office ID card.
Kara Iselin, Yell senior legal counsel and an original member of the Red Balloon-Reading trustees board, has raised almost £1,800 by walking the 96 mile West Highland Way from Milngavie, near Glasgow, to Fort William – a grueling adventure taking eight days. In the meantime, with the help of the RB-R trustees, Dr Bob Sproson, Director of Education, has established strong contacts with Reading’s education authority and also had positive discussions with other adjacent authorities about potential pupil referrals.
A centre opening date is still to be fixed.
