Red-Balloon Trustee completes Snowdonia Marathon
Jon Salmon, a trustee of Red Balloon-Reading, Berkshire, recently joined around 1300 other runners braving rain, wind, thunder, hail and a bit of sun for the 2010 Snowdonia Marathon.
With a course that boasts a total of eight miles of uphill running in north Wales, it's renowned as one of the toughest marathons in Europe. Along with colleagues from Reading-based Yell, the international classified advertising business, Jon is helping spearhead a major fundraising initiative throughout the company's UK offices to raise up to £75,000 to get one of the newest Red Balloon Learner Centres off the ground.
A property that will be home to the new Centre has now been acquired through £270,000 raised in very generous donations from Yell's banking and other professional advisors. It will now undergo building work before opening as a Learner Centre next Spring.
Jon's run of just over 26 miles helped him smash his £500 fundraising target, completing the course in just over 4hr 30 mins, and coming 821st out of about 1300 finishers. Congratulations Jon!
