Red Balloon - Norwich
About Red Balloon - Norwich
This is a very exciting time for us and everyone within the Centre is involved in the decisions that have to be made. The ethos of Red Balloon is to provide a safe environment for young people who are not able to attend mainstream school as a result of the severe bullying they have experienced. At the Centre each young person negotiates his or her personal learning plan, which includes English, Maths, Science, Art, ICT, Citizenship, PSHE, and therapy sessions. In addition to this if a request is made for any other subject area we are usually able to accommodate it. When the young person feels confident, we are able to offer work experience or work-related learning placements.
As part of the ‘recovery’ process we consider it is important to include everyone within the building in making decisions, sharing ideas, conversations at lunch, and excursions outside the Centre. Everyone within the Centre is expected to be considerate towards each other and to respect everyone and the environment.
The main aim of Red Balloon is to work towards the recovery of each person in such a way that they are able to continue their lives by returning to school, going on to further education, or joining the work force as confident young people who are able to gain the respect of those with whom they come into contact.
