About Red Balloon - Merseyside

The Red Balloon-Merseyside community works together to recover each student from the effects of bullying and reclaim their self-esteem.

Red Balloon-Merseyside is situated in a comfortable period home in Anfield. We take severely bullied students between the ages of 11 and 17 who are already out of school and missing education from a wide area across Merseyside and from diverse backgrounds. Whilst we are able to use the vast resources and educational opportunities to be found in the city to broaden our students' experiences, we also look at the issues that are relevant to young people growing up in a large city today. We provide one to one or small group education on a wide range of national curriculum areas as well as personal and social education and the creative arts.

In this relaxed, secure and supportive community students learn to recognise their own and others' feelings, and to appreciate the impact of their behaviour on others. Our students follow an integrated personal and social education programme to learn about their rights and responsibilities in the wider community in order to develop into active and engaged citizens.  Once recovered we support our students in their return to school, their move to college or into employment.
