ACT annual dinner
ACT Annual Dinner raises circa £60,000 for Red Balloon
On 9th November 2011 more than 1,400 guests attended the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) Annual Dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The event, which was attended by ACT members, leading finance figures and friends of the ACT, raised circa £60,000 for Red Balloon Learner Centre Group and ACT Educational Trust.
The event provided an opportunity for Dr Carrie Herbert, Founder and Chief Executive of Red Balloon Learner Centre Group, and Emily Allen, a former student at Red Balloon, to outline how Red Balloon recovers severely bullied children and transforms their lives.
Guests were invited to donate by entering a prize draw. The prize, of a return flight in a private helicopter for up to four people to either Le Touquet, France or Padstow, Cornwall for a fabulous lunch, was won by Suzanne Reynolds of Burberry.
The Vintage Champagne Diamond Necklace Draw, won by Katarzyna Tytz of Alliance Boots, raised £5,000.
Commenting on the event, Dr Carrie Herbert said: “It was such a glamorous occasion. Everyone seemed to want two things – to have a good time and to take the opportunity to donate to our charity. I think both aims were admirably met. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the ACT members and their guests and the amount we raised, which I think surprised many people. Even before the dinner started, Red Balloon was promised £10,000 by Barclays Corporate, and I am sure this ‘feel good factor’ affected everyone, spurring them on to donate even more. Many thanks to all those who made the event such a great occasion.
“We should like to thank Lanthwaite Aviation for providing the helicopter flight (through the support of the parents of one of our former students), Beaverbrooks for donating the stunning diamond pendant and Goedhuis & Co for providing very competitively priced vintage champagne.
“We were very fortunate to be supported by 16 volunteers, to whom we are very grateful for encouraging guests to participate in the draw as well as purchase glasses of champagne.”
90% of the funds donated will be given to Red Balloon and 10% to the ACT Educational Trust. We are extremely grateful to the ACT for supporting Red Balloon Learner Centre Group.
