Red Balloon reception at the House of Commons
Red Balloon marked its achievements to date with a wonderful reception at the House of Commons this year. We have a long list of people we must thank for making this our most successful reception yet!
Thank you to our host The Rt Hon David Blunkett MP for his kind words and support.
Red Balloon is grateful to Bovis Lend Lease and the Guvnors Club for sponsoring the evening and for their valued support throughout the year. Thanks to Sir Frank Lampl, President of Bovis, who spoke about the plight of bullied children and the vital work of Red Balloon.
We were honoured to have our Patron Professor Peter Smith join us. Professor Smith shared his knowledge of bullying and its effects on children and young people.
The Speaker of the House John Bercow made an impromptu appearance and speech, which was received with rapturous applause. The offer of the Speakers House to kick off our 15th Anniversary reception was duly noted and accepted!
Thank you also to Em Palmer. Em's story is a painful reminder of the devastating effects bullying has on young lives. Em spoke about her experiences, sharing with the audience her painful memories, but also the joy of her recovery. We're so very proud of Em and her family for their strength and courage.
To all our friends and supporters, without your help and advocacy, we wouldn't be where we are today. Thank you for helping Em, and hundreds more like her, to recover, to rise above bullying.
We want all children and young people to be able to rise above bullying like Em. If you can help us by making a donation, please do so here: www.justgiving.com/RiseAboveBullying
